Interstellar Initiative

The Interstellar Initiative is a unique opportunity that connects Early Career Investigators (ECIs) with peers from diverse scientific disciplines and pairs them with world-leading mentors. Through this international collaboration, scientists will expand their research potential, build powerful networks, and develop innovative research proposals that push the boundaries of basic scientific understanding.

The Ralph L. Sacco Scholars Program in Brain Health (“The Sacco Scholars”)

Jointly funded by the American Academy of Neurology and the American Heart Association, two $150,000 scholarships will be awarded annually to support two-year research or public health service project focused on prevention of brain disease and/or maintenance of brain health. Application period is December 2 – January 30. Who is eligible? Early career trainees (post-doctoral) Projects eligible for funding include clinical research, populations research, epidemiology, public health, community awareness and education, or policy initiatives. All proposals must be submitted electronically via ProposalCentral.

Alkermes Pathways Research Awards®

The application period for the Alkermes Pathways Research Awards® program is now open. Pathways Research Awards are open to junior investigators and will support research projects focused on schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Psychiatry Consortium

The Psychiatry Consortium is a strategic collaboration of leading medical research charities and pharmaceutical companies, working together to develop and deliver a portfolio of innovative and collaborative projects, to accelerate drug discovery in psychiatric diseases. The third call for proposals to the Psychiatry Consortium will soon be opening to applicants from academic institutions and other research institutes worldwide on 11th January 2021. This call will focus on the identification and validation of novel molecular drug targets to address the unmet therapeutic needs of people with mental health conditions. The Psychiatry Consortium intend to fund projects which: • are supported by robust evidence that links the molecular target to human disease, which can be further developed or validated, • provide a sound therapeutic hypothesis of how target modulation may have a therapeutic effect, • will enable tools for target validation e.g. through optimisation of existing tool compounds to improve selectivity, potency, bioavailability. The Psychiatry Consortium will work collaboratively with the successful applicant/s to deliver the projects. In addition to project funding and project management resources, the Consortium will provide access to drug-discovery expertise and capabilities, through specialised Contract Research Organisation (CRO) partners. Center for Scientific Review's Early Career Reviewer (ECR) Program

The program aims to help early career scientists become more competitive as grant applicants through first-hand experience with peer review and to enrich and diversify Center for Scientific Review’s pool of trained reviewers.

Scholarships to Enhance and Empower Diversity (The SEED Fund)

The Scholarships to Enhance and Empower Diversity (SEED) fund is a perpetual fund developed to support the training and mentoring of the brightest trainees from diverse backgrounds who will impact future generations through neuroscience. It is part of the American Psychological Foundation (APF) Fund for Racial and Ethnic Diversity and is administered by the APA Minority Fellowship Program (MFP).

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

Our research grants program seeks to: Encourage established investigators to undertake innovative approaches and explore new directions in suicide research; Encourage talented new investigators to enter the field of suicide research through grants that provide training support and mentoring; Provide seed money for pilot projects that show promise in opening up new areas of suicide research.

American Psychiatric Association: Research Colloquium for Junior Investigators

The Research Colloquium for Junior Investigators program is presented by APA in conjunction with the Committee on Research Training of the Council on Research. The purpose of the Research Colloquium is to provide guidance, mentorship and encouragement to young investigators in the early phases of their training. *The APA is sponsored in part by ACNP.

The Brain and Behavior Research Foundation (NARSAD)

Funds research regarding psychiatric disorders. Offers grants for researchers at a university or nonprofit research institution.

The Else Kröner Fresenius-Stiftung Foundation

The foundation was founded in 1983 by the entrepreneur Else Kröner, b. Fernau. The charitable Else Kröner-Fresenius-Foundation is dedicated to the promotion of medical research and supports medical-humanitarian projects.

The McKnight Foundation

Offers grants for neuroscience research as part of the McKnight Endowment Fund for Neuroscience.

Stanley Medical Research Institute

The Stanley Medical Research Institute (SMRI) is a nonprofit organization supporting research on the causes of, and treatments for, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Since it began in 1989, SMRI has supported more than $550 million in research in over 30 countries around the world.
