The singular value decomposition method can be used to measure the P50 response in the conditioning-testing paradigm. In step 1, a common wave shape is extracted in both responses. This process generates a weight for each electrode for each condition reflecting the waveshape magnitude. In the second step, these weights are used to create topographies of both responses. A pair of weights is then extracted describing the amplitude of the two responses across a common topography. The ratio of these amplitude is the P50 ratio derived by the singular value decomposition method. Further description of the method is found in ref. 20, whose authors graciously supplied this figure.
