Differential display of aRNA made from individual human neurons of schizophrenics and aged matched controls. Differential display of individual stellate neurons from entorhinal cortex of post-mortem tissue of schizophrenic patients (Sch1 and Sch2) and age-matched controls (AM1 and AM2). A single 10-mer oligonucleotide, OPA-7 (5'—GAAACGGGTG—3') served as the 5' primer. This primer was used in combination with two 3' primers: 5'-T11CA—3' and 5'-T11GC—3', left and right panels, respectively. The first lane of each panel is represents the no-cDNA template (NT) control lane. As evident from the photograph, there are a large number of mRNAs expressed in these cells, with numerous common bands. However, there are several bands differentially expressed between stellate neurons from Sch and AM. These data represent the first step in the identification of expressed genes which may be correlated with the occurrence of schizophrenia. |
