Schematic of one type of multibarrel micropipette used for local application of drugs by iontophoresis or micropressure while recording neuronal activity. In the method shown, a 7-barrel drug pipette is glued adjacent to a single-barrel recording micropipette. The recording pipette tip extends 10–20 mm beyond the drug pipette tip, yielding recordings with large spikes and minimizing artifacts due to iontophoretic current or pressure from the drug tips. |
